You know, Donna Karen may not be your favorite designer; but she’s been around long enough to be called the First Lady of fashion.  When it comes to her new Pre-Fall collection, I think you would agree with me.  Karen uses draping, folding, and twisting to tell her story; which leaked to her DKNY ready-to-wear collection as well.

But the real looks that have caught my eye are her leather jackets.   The following on the left from Karen’s Pre-Fall 2010 collection; and on the right, from Resort 2010.  The silhouettes are amazing and I love what she does with the fabric; reshaping with ruching and subtle folds.  I don’t know what she’s doing differently, but I like it. ~ C.M.

The Jumpsuit November 13, 2009

This year designers have been coming out with numerous variations of the jumpsuit, one piece. In the past, jumpsuits have been seen as catsuits and often times considered a fashion faux pas. However, times have changed- as well as fabrics and styles used to make these pieces.

Badgley Mischka had a few floating down their runway for Resort & Spring 2010, proving a jumpsuit can be elegant and sexy. With this trend, it’s all about the fabric and fit when choosing what looks best for you.

I had to do a double-take when I seen this collection.  Lanvin with sneakers?? Another trend spotted on Spring 2010 runways: low-top Converse All-Star inspired footwear, a step away from sky-scraping heels.  Harem pants and pant-suits were in abundance, along with gorgeous dresses, and floral accessories.  Very casual and comfortable while on vacay.  The white dress below actually triggers that small wedding desire in me =)

3.1 Phillip Lim never fails when it comes to the “modern”, contemporary woman.   Elegance meets edge in the 3.1 Resort collection; pairing a lace appliqué skirt with a  peasant blouse and adding denim and linen pieces.  Accessories also hold rank in the collection; focusing on synched and belted waists, as well as small details including exposed zippers.  Lim also showed he was not scared to show a little leg with short-hemmed skirts and high slits.

Alexander Wang’s 2010 Resort Collection is not for your usual “woman who goes on holiday”. These garments are for those who are not looking for the typical black or white sleeveless dress for tonight’s cocktail party. Wang uses basic hues such as black, white, navy blue, and taupe; adding jean and gray to his color scale. The silhouettes are “boyfriend” inspired, yet very feminine. Wang adds a loose fitting, cut-out sweater to a snug fitting hot pant-short and creates a spin on the chino with an angled closure. Alexander collaborates comfort with sexy perfectly with this collection.
